Brighter Tomorrow Boys Mentoring Group

The Brighter Tomorrow Boys Mentoring Group operates as a partnership between Edmund Rice Community & Refugee Services, the Edmund Rice Community Partnerships and a number of local schools.

Aims: The Group aims to provide young people a group platform in which they are able to experience success and build self-esteem. This will increase their ability to positively engage with the education system as well as the wider social community. The Group target young men in Years 8 who come from English as Second Language background, are disadvantaged and are at-risk of becoming disengaged from the education system.

Activities: The Group runs soccer clinics in order to attract participants. The group meets every Tuesday nights at Errington Community Centre from 3:30 to 5:30. Each session consist of an introduction, a soccer-based activity and an additional activity based around team, confidence and aptitude building. The young men involved will be encouraged to suggest additional activities they are interested in.

Recruitment:The group targets a number of local high schools. Boy’s participants are selected in consultation with teachers at local secondary schools. Approximately 20 participants are initially selected.

Staffing:The Group is currently being coordinated by Gudrun Philipp from Edmund Rice Community & Refugee Services.

Program is being supported by a group of Volunteer mentors. We are currently recruiting mentors for 2017. If you are passionate about sport and are enthusiastic about making a positive impact on the mentees contact ERCRS on the details below.
